According to an article by ABC News it is easy to declare a friend as dead and create a memorial page for them. A Facebook user named Rudy Forester experienced this one day when he tried signing on to his Facebook page. He shortly realized he had been locked out, because someone had turned his Facebook page into a memorial page.
According to the ABC News article its pretty simple to make someone’s page a memorial page. All you have to do is go to the Memorialization Request Page and submit a link to an obituary that matches or is close to the name of the person’s page who is supposedly deceased. Kind of creepy right?
I did not realize it was so easy to persuade Facebook that someone is dead. I think that memorialization pages should not be used as a joke to play with. People use those pages to commemorate and remember loved ones and friends who have passed away. Facebook should take action against people who falsely report someone as dead.
